What are CEREC® crowns?

CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, also known as ceramic reconstruction. These crowns can be made on-site in Dr. Huang’s office and placed on the tooth the same day. Pictures of your teeth are taken, a prototype of your tooth is then made inside the CEREC machine, and the crown is fabricated. After it is made in about 15-20 minutes, the crown is ready to be bonded to the tooth. They are natural in color and made of ceramic. You will no longer have to have nasty goo in your mouth for several minutes to make a mold of your teeth anymore with CEREC dental crowns.

How the same-day crown procedure is performed at our dental office

James Huang, DDS, will first prep and numb you, as with any other dental procedure. Next, a tasteless powder will be applied to your teeth. After the powder is applied, images of your teeth will be taken. These images, along with the powder, will create a prototype of your tooth for the CEREC machine. The machine will then create a crown that fits perfectly over your tooth, using the prototype. It takes around 15-20 minutes for the machine to make the crown, so you will just be waiting during this time. After the crown is ready, it will then be bonded to your tooth. Any necessary adjustments will be made by Dr. Huang at this point. After the crown is bonded and the fit is confirmed, you are all done.
