Porcelain crowns sometimes referred to as porcelain caps, are a type of restorative and cosmetic attachment that covers your tooth. Crowns help your teeth resemble their original shape and size, and crowns reinforce the structure of your teeth to strengthen them in ways that are unique among restorative treatments. If you have a chipped or cracked tooth, and you feel embarrassed about your smile or nervous about your oral health, a crown may be the perfect treatment to address your oral health concern.
Why porcelain crowns?
Porcelain is an ideal material for dental procedures because it has the ability to match your tooth’s color and can look very natural. Crowns made from porcelain are specially made to match the same size, shape, and color of your natural teeth. These crowns will leave you with a long lasting and natural looking smile. However, like many dental restorations, your porcelain crowns may need to be repaired or replaced. Your doctor should check the condition of your crowns during regular examinations.
“This is a fantastic, clean and professional facility. The dentist does not try to force sell anything. Very pleased. It is really a breath of fresh air to be able to get work done without getting pressured. He is very gentle and he got rid of an issue that I had tried to get another dentist to do years ago and they wanted to do other stuff ‘first’. I can’t say enough good things about this provider. Highly recommend, and I hate dentists.” 🙂Ginger B.
Reasons for getting porcelain crowns
There are a variety of reasons that might encourage you to want porcelain crowns, including but not limited to:
- Broken or fractured teeth
- Broken or fractured fillings
- You want to enhance your cosmetic appearance
- Protecting root canals
- Tooth decay
If you are interested in restoring color to your smile and force to your bite, a porcelain crown may be an ideal treatment option for you. Many of Dr. Huang’s patients opt for porcelain crown treatments over other restorative and cosmetic treatment options.
What is the process of receiving a porcelain crown?
Porcelain crowns require two appointments with Dr. Huang in most circumstances.
During the first appointment, molds will be taken of your teeth to create the porcelain crown that perfectly fits your tooth. This mold will also be used to fit a temporary crown to your tooth while the permanent crown is assembled.
Once your x-rays are taken and your temporary crown has been created, Dr. Huang will then fit the temporary crown. He will numb your tooth and reshape its surface to fit the temporary crown, requiring the removal of any decay in the process. You will then be fitted with your temporary crown and Dr. Huang will make any adjustments if needed to guarantee that you have a consistent and healthy bite.
At your second appointment, Dr. Huang will remove the temporary crown and fit your permanent crown after you are numbed. At All-in-One Dental Innovations, we take special care to ensure that your mouth has appropriate spacing between your teeth and that you can bite comfortably with your new permanent crown. Dr. Huang will then give you instructions on caring for your crown. He will answer any questions you have and also make sure that you had a successful and smooth procedure.
